Description	:	Florence L. Varner, 80, of Keokuk, died Friday, Aug. 12, in her home. She was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Dalton, Neb., to Charles and Ella Mae Simms Stacy. She married William L. Varner on Aug. 1, 1953, ikn Batesville, Ark. He survives. Other survivors include: five sons, Dwight W. Handyside of Warsaw, Ill., Duane A. Handyside of Wayland, Mo., Myron J. Handyside of Hamilton, Ill.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Jack (Sharon) Mortimer of Keokuk, Kathleen Miller of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Ed (Elaine) Brownlee of Warsaw, and Mrs. Ron (Blanche) Knutdson of Annaheim, Calif.; three sister, Genevieve Zelsdorf of Iberia, Mo., Nellie Capellen of Ravenna, Neb., and Bertha Roach of Bridgeport, Neb.; a brother, Shirley Stacy of Boardman; Ore., 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 20 step grandchildren. At the age of 20, she moved from Dalton, Neb., to Zion, Ill., and then in 1941, she moved to Keokuk. She had been employed at the Swift's Hatchery, Dryden Rubber Co., Paitz Supermarket and also the St. Joseph Hospital, all in Keokuk. She did volunteer work for the Keokuk Area Hospital, AARP and the Red Cross. She was a delegate for the ARea Agency on Aging, and had worked with the Heritage Center. She was of the Christian faith. Services will be at 2 p.m. MOnday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at Vigen Memorial Home and the family will meet with friends from 7-9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
