Glenn Barney, pastor of the Julesburg Methodist church. Masonic rites were conducted by Chapter A.F. & A.M., Holyoke, of which Mr. Beal was a member. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Sterling. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Austin Funeral Home of Julesburg. LaVern Andrew Beal, son of Andrew and Mary Pauline Hagemann Beal, was born September 6, 1907, in Adams County, Nebraska, near Juniata. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith when an infant and received his early schooling in Nebraska. In March 1917 he came with the family to Phillips County and grew to manhood at the family home north of Holyoke. He attended schools near the farm home and engaged in farming with his father during his early manhood. On December 31, 1937 he was married to Lillie May Morris at Holyoke. They made their home on a farm north of Holyoke. To this union were born two children, Donna Jean and David Anthony. Following the death of his brother Arthur, in 1941, he became the guardian of his brother's children, Gloria, Kenton, and Lorna, and the children made their home with him and Mrs. Beal for a number of years. In addition to his own farming, he took over the operation of his brother's farming interests and machine shop, managing the business in behalf of the children's interest and of the senior partner, H.E. Reichelt, Sr., for 13 years. He and his family attended the Baptist church in Holyoke for many years, and upon establishing a home in Julesburg last fall, they attended the Methodist church in that city. Mr. Beal was preceded in death by both parents, by his oldest brother, Arthur, and an infant brother. He is survived by his widow and two children; five brothers, Elmer, Chicago Park, California, Albert, Oscar and Lester of this community, and Kermit Johnstown, Colorado; four sisters, Mrs. Esther Finke of Holyoke, Mrs. Evelyn Rutt of Brighton, Mrs. Helen Condreay of Denver, and Mrs. Glen Chandler of Long Beach, California; and many other relatives.
