Description	:	LaVern Edward Patrie age 81 of New Hartford, formerly of New Hampton, died Monday, January 28, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with Rick Patrie, Pat Patrie, Doug Patrie, Zach Patrie, Orion Patrie and Tristan Patrie serving as pallbearers. LaVern Edward Patrie was born January 10, 1932, in rural Chickasaw County, IA, near New Hampton, the son of Joseph and Clara (Wilhelm) Patrie. He received his education in New Hampton and was a 1950 graduate of the New Hampton High School. He met his future wife as a freshman in high school. On January 21, 1951, at The Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA, he married Betty Jean Hartson. To this union two sons were born. LaVern worked for many years at the former Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, IA, and was very active in the Union. He worked there until the plant closed in the early 1980's. He aslo farmed for 15 years. The couple built their own home in 1968 and also built the home of their son, Doug. He was an avid builder and flyer of model airplanes. He loved going for rides in the country and attending antique shows. Survivors include two sons, Doug (Sandy) Patrie of Clarksville, IA, Zach Patrie of Eirie, CO; two grandsons, Orion (Amanda) Patrie, Tristan Patrie, all of Witchita, KS; one great-granddaughter, Jillian Patrie; one brother, Levi Patrie of New Hampton; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Patrie of New Hampton, Geneva Patrie of Charles City. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Jean on November 29, 2012; four brothers, Mel Patrie, Clinton Patrie, Joe Patrie and Clyde Patrie.
