Read More	Huebner Funeral Home LAVERN ROGER "CHESTY" WESSEL November 27, 1925 - February 15, 2022 LaVern Roger "Chesty" Wessel was born on November 27, 1925 to Ernie and Verna (Michaelsen) Wessel near Charter Oak. He was baptized and later confirmed his faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. He graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1944. He was given the nickname Chesty in high school and it stayed with him until the end. LaVern married Irma Goslar in a double ceremony with Phillip and Leona Klaus on July 14, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple were blessed with the birth of five children: Carol, Steven, Randy, Janet and Gregg. LaVern started farming at a young age and continued to do so until retirement. At which time, LaVern and Irma became proprietors of Ricketts Lanes for five years. He attended many different ABC bowling tournaments throughout the United States where he acquired many different trophies. "Baseball was his first love" as Irma always says. He also enjoyed many rounds of golf with family and friends. LaVern passed away at his home and surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the age of 96 years, two months and 19 days. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Wessel; grandchildren: Matthew Evers and Douglas Steven Wessel; infant brother, Douglas Rylan; parents-in-law, Ed and Lena (Rosburg) Goslar. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Irma Wessel of Ricketts; children: Carol (Butch) of Charter Oak, Randy of Berne, Jan of Ricketts, and Gregg of Audubon; daughter-in-law, Pat Wessel of Ute; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter brother: Richard (Arlene) Wessel of Denison; and many other relatives and friends. GO CUBS, GO! The visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. all on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Charter Oak. Interment will be held in the St. Paul Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
