Later, the family moved to Holyoke, where Laverne graduated from high school. She died June 19, 2015, in Denver at the age of 94. Laverne had two children, John and Diana, by her first marriage. Read More	Laverne Harriet Woodmancy was born on the family farm 10 miles south of Venango, Neb., Aug. 18, 1920, to John and Edith Woodmancy. Later, the family moved to Holyoke, where Laverne graduated from high school. She died June 19, 2015, in Denver at the age of 94. Laverne had two children, John and Diana, by her first marriage. Later the marriage was dissolved. She then married Max Heginbotham, who adopted the two children. Max died in 1956. In 1959, she married David W. Brown, and a daughter, Brenda, was born to this union. Dave and Laverne lived on a ranch south of Holyoke for many years. During those years, Laverne was very active in the community and in the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to bowl, and for many years she organized two women’s teams to go to the state bowling convention. Being from a large family, there were many gatherings at her parents’ home in Holyoke. She worked at many farm and estate sales in the area, helping husband Dave with his auctioneer business. Laverne was an excellent cook. Her recipe book held many of her tried-and-true recipes that quickly became family favorites. No matter what anyone wanted to cook or bake, it seemed like she always had a wonderful recipe for that very item. And she could give many great hints along with the recipe. She was a gifted seamstress and sewed many clothes for her family and nieces, both for casual wear and for weddings. Over the years, she created many crocheted items, from doilies to bedspreads, Christmas ornaments, tablecloths, wall hangings, baby blankets and shawls. Some years ago, she started using up her many yards of fabric by creating baby quilts for “Hope House” in Denver. The quilts then became larger and were used as “lap blankets.” She made hundreds of these lap blankets, and if anyone came to her house for a visit, they were very likely to walk away with a blanket of their own. She also sewed “Dresses for Africa,” a charity sponsored by Prior’s Fabrics in Imperial, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Woodmancy; brothers, John (Jack) Woodmancy and Wayne Woodmancy; sisters, June Schrage, Signa Ward and Vona Radtke; and son, John Heginbotham. Survivors include her brother, Vern Woodmancy and wife Delores of Grant, Neb.; daughter, Diana and husband Phil Lockwood of Golden; daughter, Brenda Peterson of Grant; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her services took place at the Holyoke United Methodist Church June 26, with grandson Paul Lockwood and Lucky Pugh officiating. Burial was at the Holyoke Cemetery.
