Memorial services were held February 4, 1992, in Independence. The ashes will be take for burial at Ruskin, NE, near his first wife, Ruth. (NOTE: He is buried in Nelson Cemetery and Ruth is buried at Spring Creek Cemetery near Ruskin) LaVerne grew up and graduated from Nelson High School in 1930. He married Elva Ruth Magee on February 24, 1933, at Mankato, KS. She preceded him in death on February 22, 1989. They farmed near Ruskin and Nelson for a few years before moving to Englewood, CO, in the early forties, where he became a contractor and builder for many years. After his retirement, they lived on an acreage near Louisville, CO. In May 1975 they moved to Cashmere, WA, where he worked on the Rock Island Dam. They moved to Salem, OR, in 1980. LaVerne married Mrs. Opal Byrne on August 4, 1989. His parents, three brothers, Clifford, Glenn, Jr. and Bobby, and two sisters, Jean and Fay Hudgins-Hollearin, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Opal; two sons, Jimmie (Debra) of Salem, OR, and Leslie (Elaine) of Aurora, CO; six daughters, Janet (Ken) Forbes of Denver, CO, Phyllis Simpson of Woodburn, OR, Linda Heglin of Beresford, SD, Betty Jo (Ronald) Baker of Hominy, OK, Dianna (Anthony) Aragon of Yakima, WA, and Susanne Cooper of Boulder, CO; a step-daughter, Elaine Lupin of Amity, OR; a stepson, Richard Lewis of Brownsmead, OR; three sisters, Marvel McMullen of Denver, CO, Leone (Leslie) Troudt of Alma, NE, and Ellen Mae (Peggy) Van Buren of Springerville, AZ; one brother, Dwight (Johnny) Adamson of Exeter, NE; 24 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
