LaVerne was born on August 7, 1935 the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Bernards) Lewis in Valley Springs, South Dakota. She was raised and educated in Valley Springs. LaVerne married Alvin Scholten on July 3, 1951 in Valley Springs and they made their home in rural Valley Springs where they raised their family. She worked for M & P Painting and did housekeeping part-time. LaVerne was an active member of Valley Springs Reformed Church, Ruth Circle and the Valley Springs Community Club. She was an avid bowler for thirty years and enjoyed getting together with her bowling friends for lunch and games in her later years. She also met with her morning coffee friends at Sunshine Foods Monday thru Friday every week. LaVerne watched her favorite sport teams on a regular basis, which included the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves and Lynx. She also kept busy attending many of her grandchildren's activities and events. LaVerne is survived by her son, Keith (Kathy) Scholten of Brandon, SD; daughters, Sue (Gene) Hughes of Valley Springs, SD, Cindy (Carl) Moss of Valley Springs, SD; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Kory) Hove, Kelly (Stacy) Scholten, Jason (Kelsi) Rentschler, Kyle (Char) Scholten, Amy Moss, Angela (Rick) Danielson, Kory (Tara) Scholten, and Staci (Jared) McKinney; eighteen great-grandchildren, Zachary, Thomas, Jack, Sam, Addison, Claudia, Layton, Stella, Lindsey (Garrett), Kelsey (Sid), Kaden, Ivy, Kayla, Kianna, James, Mathew, Luke, Reilly; five great great grandchild, Addilyn, Braxtyn, Hayedyn, Henrik and Kaiyah. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin (2006); and twin sister, LaVonne Kouri. - George Boom Funeral Home
