He passed away Sunday morning, August 20, following an operation at Veterans' Hospital in Lincoln the preceding Friday. The Rev. He passed away Sunday morning, August 20, following an operation at Veterans' Hospital in Lincoln the preceding Friday. The Rev. Adolph Lillich, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, officiated at the services. Burial was at Greenwood cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers were R.E. Noyer, Joe Kulhanek, Richard Nygaard, Harry Lafrenz, Waymond Finke and Marshall Kyriss. About 50 members of the VFW and American Legion posts, in uniform, attended the services and escorted the body to the cemetery. The Brunswick American Legion colors also marched in the procession. The firing squad and "Taps" by Alice Weber at the cemetery paid final tribute to the deceased veteran. Laverne V. Hansen was born Aug. 19, 1912 at San Bernardino, Calif. His foster parents were Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hansen, both of whom preceded him in death. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He spent his boyhood and young manhood on a farm southeast of Creighton. On March 3, 1943 he was united in marriage to Margaret Hurni of Sioux City, Ia. at Denver, Colo. Mr. Hansen joined the United States army in September of 1943. He was attached to the 79th infantry division, having attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was wounded in action in October 1944 in Germany and as a result lost a leg. He was honorably discharged from the army in June 1946. Prior to entering the service he was in business in Creighton, operating a grocery store. After his discharge he returned to Creighton and bought the Pete Carroll business, operating it as Vern's Bar until his death. He became ill Sunday, Aug. 13 and was taken to Veterans' Hospital on Thursday, undergoing an operation the following day. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hansen; a daughter, Sandra Rae; one sister, Mrs. Floyd Nielsen, all of Creighton and other relatives.
