The lady died at the home of her son, Henry, thirty-eight miles north of Thedford. Obit: Mrs. LaVina Honts, widow of George W. Honts, who died in Cherry County on the 11 inst. was buried besides the remains of her husband Saturday. They were former residents of the western part of Township of Elk Creek. After Mr. Honts death, the family removed from Custer County. Attending the funeral were Henry Houts of Brownlee, Mrs. Eliza Marsh of Bellsing, Mrs. C. M. Williams, Miss Florence E. Honts of Brownlee, and Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Winch of Fern. Bad snow storms and roads delayed the funeral to Saturday. Henry G. Honts' mother, Lavina Bedwell Honts, is buried next to her husband, George W. Honts, in the Mason City Cemetery according to her obit, but the burial records do not reflect this. When my oldest sister visited the area in 1986 and showed the sexton a copy of the obit, he got out a probe of some kind and probed around my great-grandfather's grave and found someone buried next to him but there is no record of her burial there. She was at her son Henry's when she passed away. Her body was transported by train to Cherry County, NE for burial. The train was caught in a severe snow storm, and her coffin sat on the train for 10 days until the train could make in through. (per Lois Clark, great-granddaughter).
