A public memorial service will be held at a later date. LaVina Iona Feickert was born on April 24, 1932 at the Homestead northwest of Leola to Edwin and Lydia (Dockter) Feickert. She was baptized on May 29, 1932 in Hope Lutheran Church, Hoffman Township. She was confirmed on June 16, 1946 at St. James Lutheran Church, Leola. She attended rural school in Wacker and Weber Township. In 1949, she enrolled in New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, ND. On December 31, 1950, she married Elmer Hopf at Leola. They made their home on a farm near Marion, SD. In 1953, they moved into Warner. Elmer died in May 1985. In 1999, she moved to Aberdeen. LaVina was employed at South Dakota School of the Visually Handicapped and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a certified Dietary Manager. LaVina was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was active in Mary’s Circle and the quilting group, member of Aberdeen Senior Citizens, South Dakota Dietary Manager’s Association, Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Retiree’s, Auxiliary and foundation board. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, crocheting, quilting, sewing, gardening and playing Bridge. Grateful for having shared LaVina’s life are her children, Cheryln (Robert) Shaffer, Gregory, Bernita (James) Flannery, Roscoe, Bryan (Kathy) Hopf, Courtland, MN, Holly Rogers (Brent Meier), Aberdeen, grandchildren, Patrick (Claudia) Shaffer, Emilie (Kevin) Myrmoe, Corey (Lisa) Flannery, Nathaniel Flannery, Rachel (Johnathan) Binfet, Amber (Josh) Dahl, Andi Hopf, Mariah Rogers (Matthew McIntyre), Micah Rogers and Michaela (Nate Solum), great-grandchildren, Emmett, Miles, Jordy, Alexis, Gavin, Bryce, Luke, Morgan, Tre, Keevah, and Conner. Preceding LaVina in death are her husband, Elmer Hopf, grandson, Jeremiah Shaffer, parents, Edwin and Lydia Feickert and sister, Marcella Schock. - Spitzer Funeral Home
