He passed away Monday, May 3, 1993 in Greeley at the age of 50. Larry attended grade school at Pleasant Valley and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1960. He passed away Monday, May 3, 1993 in Greeley at the age of 50. Larry attended grade school at Pleasant Valley and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1960. Following high school, he attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. He then went to Dallas Gupton-Jones School of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1964. Larry worked for the Ed Lewis Funeral Home in Holyoke until he purchased the business from Ed in January of 1969. He operated Thompson Mortuary until his recent illness. He was recently diagnosed with liver cancer and was admitted to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley where he was receiving chemotherapy at the time of his death. Larry was active in the community including summer recreation where he coached Babe Ruth Baseball and sponsored the Western Vault men's softball team. His other interests included bowling and golf. He was very active at the Holyoke Golf Club. Larry was a retired member of the Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Elks in Sterling, and also served terms as councilman and mayor for the City of Holyoke. He was probably best known for his strong support of school athletics. Survivors include his wife Diane and sons Jeremy and Toby of Holyoke; daughter Debbie of Denver; mother Bernice Thompson of Holyoke; mother-in-law Thelma Norman of LaSalle; brothers Tommy and wife Sharon of Haxtun and Ron and wife Sharon of Holyoke; sister-in-law Mary and husband Lennard Eckhardt of Rifle; five nephews; two nieces; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. Services were Thursday, May 6, 1993 at United Methodist Church in Holyoke with interment at Holyoke Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the athletic department of Holyoke High School, of which Larry was an avid fan.
