Read More	EFFIE BERNICE (COLGLAZIER) THOMPSON Effie Bernice Colglazier Thompson, the daughter of Cecil Bruno and Effie D. Huff Colglazier, was born Jan. 24, 1914 at the Colglazier farm southeast of Holyoke. She died and departed this life Sept. 6, 2012 at the age of 98 at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Bernice attended Amitie School and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1932. She continued her education at University of Colorado in Boulder. On Sept. 7, 1935 she was united in marriage to Maurice G. Thompson in Sterling. To this union, three sons were born: Tommy, Larry and Ronny. Maurice and Bernice started farming south of Holyoke, where they raised cattle along with milking cows. Bernice raised a flock of Leghorn hens and sold hatching eggs to the hatchery in Wray. In 1947 they purchased the Stickle Ranch southeast of Holyoke where they made their home farming and raising cattle, sheep, hogs and chickens. The family developed circle irrigation before Maurice and Bernice retired to Holyoke in 1968. Son Ron Thompson and family have continued with the farming operation. Tommy and Larry operated the mortuaries in Haxtun and Holyoke. Bernice enjoyed her flowers and was an avid gardener, raising a large garden. She always enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and later her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She especially liked playing a game of dominos or a card game with them. Quilting with the Senior Citizens Club was an activity she enjoyed. Maurice died in 1979. Bernice continued to make her home in Holyoke and kept busy with volunteer work. She was a member of First Christian Church, Mirage Delphian Club, AARP, Senior Citizens Club and Phillips County Historical Society, serving as treasurer for several years. In 2007 she moved to Carriage House and later Regent Park, where she had been residing until entering the hospital. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Lawrence; brothers, Ernest, Harold and Dale; and sisters, Edith, Myrtle, Louise and Lucille. She is survived by her two sons, Tommy G. Thompson and wife Sharon and Ronald K. Thompson and wife Sharon; daughter-in-law, Diane Thompson; brother, Merle Colglazier of Maryland; sister, Doris Foster of New York; sister-in-law, Marjorie Colglazier of Holyoke; grandchildren, Timothy and wife Julie, Mark and wife Leslie, Scott and wife Paige, Debbie Thompson, Jeremy Thompson, Toby and wife Jackie, Courtney Vance and husband Clint and Casey Thompson; great-grandchildren, Seth, Riley and Allie, Shannon and Megan, Lia and Ryder, MacKenzie and Gehrig, Emma, and Cooper Vance; special friends, Charley and Steve Triplette; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Holyoke with Pastor Merle Powell officiating. Interment was set to follow at the Holyoke Cemetery. Gerk Funeral Homes was entrusted with the arrangements.
