He gauduated from the West Ward School in Wabash in 1908 and entered Wabash High School in September of that year. Of necessity he left high school in the second year to go to work for the S.H. Know 5¢ & 10¢ store. He received the balance of his education through correspodence school, first studying Civil Engineering with an Uncle in the American School of Correspondence. He also studied under a private teacher in this field but did not complete the course on account of getting married. He completed a course Automobile Mechanics. He next completed a four year course in Business Administration including banking, auditing and all phases of accounting. He received a diploma from the International Accountant Society in May 1934. He also took instruction in deisel engine maintainence at the General Motors Deisel plant and a special course for management at the University of Chicago. This work was on behalf of the New York Cenral Railborad and on his return to his headquarters he instructed other officials and imployees. He left the S.H. Know store in 1910 to go to work in the master mechanics office of the CCC & StL Railroad (Big four). He was transferred to the Car Repair Department in 1912 and became Division storekeeper in 1914. In 1920 he was transferred to Lyons Yard to head the stores department there and in 1933 to the Brightwood yard where rmained until he retired in 1958 at the age of sixty-five years. While at the Lyons yard he resided in Danville, Illinois and then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where the Brightwood Yard was located. At the time of his retirement a was given a party which his brothers and two sons were in attended. As a retirement gift from the railroad he received a White Card Pass for himself and his wife, good for any train travel in the New York Central System. In 1916 he married Grace Smith of Wabash and they had a family of two sons and three daughters. They have twenty grandchildren. Hobbies are fishing and figures. In 1941 he built a cottage at Silver Lake, Indiana where his wife and family enjoyed many summers. He was the president of the Courtland Park Cottage Owners Association for eight years.
