FAIR SUCCUMBS AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS Was One Of Early Settlers Coming Here In The 80s Lawrence Elmer Fair, 77, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Glendora Kapson, in Holyoke at 9 o'clock Friday night from heart trouble with which he had been critically ill for a short time. It was the third death in the family within a month, Mr. Fair's daughter, Mrs. Berniece Walters, and the latter's 9-month-old son, Danny, having died three weeks previously. Mr. Fair was an early settler of what is now Phillips County, homesteading near Amherst in the 80s. The family, however, left here in 1910, locating at Highfill, Arkansas and returning to Holyoke last year. Mr. Fair was married to Alice Lenora Fair in Nebraska 49 years ago. The widow, two sons and three daughters survive. The children are Mrs. Glendora Kapson, Mrs. Grace Burchett, and Mrs. Maude Douglas, all of Holyoke, Victor Fair of Denver and Loren Fair of Gulfport, Mississippi. Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. M.B. Beattie, pastor of the M.E. church, preaching the sermon and being assisted by Rev. J.W. Bailey of the Baptist church and Rev. J.G. Olmsted of the Christian church. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery. Holyoke Enterprise Transcribed by Carol Moore February 25, 1932 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ OBITUARY - Lawrence Elmer Fair was born in Pennsylvania January 24, 1855, and died February 19, 1932 in the evening as the clock was striking nine; he was 77 years and 26 days old and the third son of George Fair and Jennie (Show) Fair. Mr. Fair moved with his parents from Pennsylvania to Illinois when he was a boy of 8 years. From Illinois they moved to Nebraska when he was a young man where he met Alice Lenore Sloan who became a playmate of his brothers and sisters and later became his wife. To them were born 7 children, 3 sons and 4 daughters, the eldest, Loren Fair of Gulfport, Mississippi, Victor Fair of Denver, Colorado and Willie who died in infancy. The daughters are Mrs. Glendora Kapson, Mrs. Grace Burchett, Mrs. Maude Douglas all of Holyoke, Colorado, and Mrs. Bernice Walters who died at Holyoke, Colorado, February 2, 1932, after a short illness which, together with the grief of her little son, Danny, who died 4 days previously, caused her death. Mr. Fair, grief stricken over the double loss took a cold and soon succumbed, as his heart was not strong enough to rally from the flue and his grief. While he was ill he had some beautiful visions of "The Land That Is Fairer Than Day."
