He was born Aug. 12, 1925, to George and Anna (Torske) Johansen. On June 16, 1946, he married Dorothy Quincy. Survivors include his wife; children, Larry and his wife, Cheryl, of Lincolnton, Ga., Gary and his wife, Georgiana, of West Jordan, Utah, Maynard and his wife, Kathy, of Holstein, Neb., Leonard and his wife, Danna, of Heartwell and Lynda and her husband, Steve, of Kansas City; grandchildren, Tammy, Geannie, Angela, Michele, Brenda, Jacqueline, Stephanie, Michael, Thomas, Tracey, Jesse, Lisa, Jeff and Malea; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Verla Rae Steiner, Lois Ann Shiers and Viola Sinsel; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a World War II veteran and a devoted father. He attended grade school in a local country school and graduated from Heartwell High School. He played town team basketball and enjoyed all kinds of sports. He served 3½ years in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific and later in China. He and Dorothy had five children, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He farmed for several years near Heartwell, owned and operated the Green Onion Steakhouse in Holstein and moved to Kansas City in 1986. While there, he was caretaker of a Jewish synagogue and manager of an apartment complex. He retired and spent his remaining years at home in Kansas City enjoying life. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edmund, Ralph, Arnold and Verdon; sisters, Frieda, Alice, Maye and Nola Jean; and grandson, Caleb.
