Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sutton Federated Church. Sutton Cemetery. ====================== The Clay County News (Sutton, NE), Thursday, September 10, 1981 Lawrence J. Walters 1912-1981 Lawrence J. Walters was born November 24, 1912, to Lewis and Carolyn Walters at Red Cloud, Nebraska. He passed away September 2, 1981, at the Henderson Community Hospital. Mr. Walters spent his childhood in Guide Rock and Red Cloud. He graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1932. On July 2, 1933 (sic), Lawrence was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Hicks of Sutton. They resided in California until 1944, where he worked as a painter for the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California. In 1944, Mr. and Mrs. Walters returned to Sutton, Nebraska to reside. He worked for a period of time at the Harvard Air Base and in Lincoln, Nebraska. Therefore, Lawrence opened a paint store in Sutton, a business he operated for 35 years in partnership with his wife Dorothy, until her death, and one he continued to manage until his own death. Mr. Walters is survived by three children, Mrs. Lawrence (Shirley) Wach of Sutton, Ronald Walters of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Mrs. William (Linda) Silvey, of Harvard; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, his mother, Mrs. Frank Corpany of Long Beach, California and one sister, Mrs. Fred Sieber of Manhattan Beach, California. Funeral services were conducted on September 5 at the Sutton Federated Church with the Reverend Robert Bowne officiating. Interment was in the Sutton Cemetery. Casket bearers and honorary bearers included Mayor Joe Menza, Paul Bender, Henry Rempel, Wayne Erickson, Paul Schneider, Fred Schulte, Clarence Stengel, Clarence Hurst, Robert Figi, Sam Nelson, Chet Fisher and Arthur Kessler. Arrangements were made by the Kohler Mortuary.
