He was born on June 6, 1914, in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Arthur and Evaline (Felderman) Kohlenberg, of rural Bellevue. He attended the Etting Elementary School. He married the love of his life, Arlene Hueneke, on Sept. 16, 1937, at St. John's in St. Donatus. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2008. Lawrence was a lifelong beef farmer. His passion, pride and joy was farming along his beloved Mississippi River. In addition to farming, in 1961, he developed Nita-Ho Valley, a recreational cottage and resort area, which he owned and operated until 2002. He served on numerous boards and committees throughout his life, including the Bellevue Memorial Hospital, St. John's Lutheran Church, Dubuque County Education Association and the Jackson County Cattleman's Association. In 1988, he was honored by being inducted into the Jackson County Cattleman's Hall of Fame. Lawrence was a lifelong dedicated member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus, where he was baptized, confirmed, married and will now rest in peace. Surviving are his wife, Arlene, of Dubuque; children, Joann Kasik, of Asbury, Iowa, Lynn (Eileen) Kohlenberg, of rural Bellevue, and Jeanette (Jim) Jamieson, of Plymouth, Mass.; a sister, Verna Fiedler, of rural Anamosa, Iowa; grandchildren, Scott (Debbie) Kasik, of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Phil Kasik and Chad (Meghan) Kohlenberg, both of Dubuque; three great-grandchildren, Scout, Cortlyn and Averee Kasik, of Mechanicsville; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly Jamieson, of Long Island, N.Y., Kathleen Gargano, of Marshfield Hills, Mass., and Jim Jamieson Jr., of Marlboro, Mass.; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Landon Cahill, of Cedar Rapids, and Robert James Gargano, of Marshfield, Mass.; and three nieces, Carol Schardt, of Calabasas, Calif., Sarah (Bill) Thorn, of Des Moines, and Marge Felderman, of rural St. Donatus. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Finely Hospital, Dr. Randall Lengeling and Comfort Care for all the care and kindness they gave to Lawrence and his family.
