Description	:	Lawrence L. Lewis, the youngest son of William A. and Nellie Maude (Benjamin) Lewis, was born March 6, 1917, on a farm about three miles south of Villisca, Iowa and he passed away after a short illness at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa on November 21, 2014, at the age of 97 years. Lewis, the youngest son of William A. and Nellie Maude (Benjamin) Lewis, was born March 6, 1917, on a farm about three miles south of Villisca, Iowa and he passed away after a short illness at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa on November 21, 2014, at the age of 97 years. At age sixteen, Lawrence worked in the coal mines south of Hepburn and near Carbon. His first “real job” was driving a truck for Tyler’s Ice House delivering 300 lb. ice cakes to customers throughout the local area. On August 15, 1938, he was united in marriage to Ruth Frazee in Red Oak, Iowa. Lawrence and Ruth spent most of their adult years farming on the Arlington View Farm and later in the Sciola community, north of Villisca. They had four children: Darwin (deceased), Margaret, Roger, and Bernie. They were able to raise the kids on the farm and start them in school at the local country schools. When Lawrence retired from farming, they bought an acreage two miles east of Villisca and he started driving a school bus eventually being promoted to bus manager. He was well liked by the kids who rode his bus. At this time he was doing carpentry, roofing, and painting full-time. Lawrence was the last member of his senior family to pass away. His favorite past time was eating candy! He was well respected in the community for his honesty and integrity. He was always soft spoken but always had time to “kid” and visit with everyone. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie Maude Lewis; four sisters: Alice (Oscar) Peterson, Laura (Clyde) McFarland, Fern (Fred) Lewis, and Letha (Ralph) Murray; one brother: Jim (Wilma) Lewis; his wife Ruth Lewis who died recently on August 27, 2014; and one son, Darwin Lewis (2012), one granddaughter, Adrianne Heard (1962), and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Heard (1992). Survivors include his children: Margaret (Dale) Spencer of Villisca, Roger (Evelyn) Lewis of Indianola, and Bernie (Gail) Lewis of Erie, Colorado; grandchildren, Trent (Jeanna) Heard, Des Moines, Iowa; Debbie (Lee) Hughes, Villisca, Iowa; Cindy Lewis, Alexandra, VA, and Daniel (Lisa) Lewis, West Des Moines, Iowa; many great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be held in the Advent Christian Church on Monday, November 24, 2014, at 10:30 am with Rev. Darren Brisco officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Villisca Cemetery. Visitation with the family greeting friends is scheduled from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23rd at Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Advent Christian Church or Heartland Hospice in Red Oak. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
