Lawrence, son of Albert and Frances (Kovarik) Cibula of the Vining community, was born March 3, 1926 at the farm home in York Township. He attended school through the 8th grade at Belleview School No. 9. He served in the Army during World War II and then farmed his entire life around the Vining area. He was also a carpenter. Lawrence married Philomena Sevcik, daughter of Joseph and Frances (Zmolek) Sevcik on October 30, 1951 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, rural Clutier. Above all, Lawrence loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He raised chickens and sold thousands of brown eggs over the years. He always liked visiting with his customers and going to the Farmer’s Market. He was fond of going fishing and was known by his family for his smoked carp. He was proud of his garden and especially liked his tea roses. Lawrence was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chelsea, the Belle Plaine American Legion where he enjoyed being a part of the honor guard for veteran’s funerals and the dinners following. He was also a member of the Eagles and Catholic Order of Foresters. He is survived by a son, Arlo (Nancy) Cibula of Vining and two daughters, Vickie (Dan) McElroy of Elberon and Cheryl (J.P. Golinvaux) Cibula of Des Moines, five grandchildren Jennifer (Sam) Hulme and Matthew (Tina) Cibula of Clutier, Brian (Jen) Cibula of San Jose CA, Eric (Emilee) McElroy of Marion and Paul (Miranda) McElroy of Cedar Rapids; eight great-grandchildren and a sister Pauline Kirk of Zearing. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and three sisters, Lillian Rineberg, Rosalie Upah and Ruthie Cibula. The family owes special thanks to the staff at Sunny Hill Care Center, where he resided for the last ten years, for their compassionate care of “Pa Pa”. hrabak funeral home
