Description	:	Lawrence Paul Martin Borgelt, 95, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Adam Snoberger will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery in Norfolk. Read More	Lawrence Paul Martin Borgelt, 95, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Adam Snoberger will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery in Norfolk. Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements. Lawrence was born on May 23, 1919, at Tilden to August Henry and Anna (Geissel) Borgelt. He attended school in Tilden until the 8th grade where he helped on the family farm. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, March 5, 1942, and attained the rank of Machine Gun Sergeant. During World War II, he was a truck driver, a foreman for construction of bridges and a squad leader. He received his honorable discharge on Dec. 28, 1945. He was united in marriage to Florene Gall on Sept. 1, 1946, at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The couple made their home in Battle Creek where he worked for a farmer and later at the Battle Creek Creamery until 1948. The couple farmed southwest of Battle Creek from 1948 until 1954, later moving to Grand Island where he was employed at Archer Oil Co. In 1957, he sold commercial feed for Walnut Grove and later purchased a package liquor store in Ord where he built it into a thriving business. They returned to Grand Island in 1976 and sold hog confinement buildings until 1980. In 1980, they moved to Ericson where he owned a lake cabin. While in Ericson he sold livestock warning systems. He retired in 1982 residing at Lake Ericson until 2002 when he moved back to Grand Island where he resided at Chrysalis Retirement Independent Living Center. In 2002, he received an honorary high school diploma at Madison. He was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in North Platte and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Lantis of Sutherland; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Cathy Borgelt of Eau Claire, Wis.; five grandchildren, Randy and Denise Lantis of Sutherland, Debra and Tim Linscott of Grant, Bob and Jenny Lantis of North Platte, Pamela Borgelt of Eau Claire, Wis., and Laura and Robert Jenkins of Fall Creek, Wis.; great-grandchildren, KayLynn and Jacob Lantis of Sutherland, Adaline, Olivia, and Elijah Linscott of Grant, Gracia, Elexis, and Whitley Lantis of North Platte, Bennett Borgelt of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jackson and Austin Behlke of Fall Creek, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florene in 1998; great-grandchild, Alexis Behlke in 2013; five brothers, Elmer in 2013, George in 1994, Fred in 1994, Clarence in 1975, Harry in 1988; and two sisters, Katie in 2000, and Amanda in 1996.
