Lawrence Preston Bright Born: March 27, 1924 Died: February 03, 2016 Gaffney, SC - - Lawrence Preston Bright, 91, of 702 Union Street, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his residence. Born in Blacksburg, he was the husband of Doris Stroup Pennington Bright and son of the late Parl Moroni Bright and Callie Breeden Bright. Mr. Bright was a retired carpenter, was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran, was of the Baptist faith and attended Temple Baptist Church. He was a member of the Spartan Spinners Square Dance Club, loved reading, gardening and flowers, and loved being with his family, especially on “Sunday Nights”. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Jerry Wayne Pennington of North Carolina; a daughter, Sally P. Smith and husband, Lee, of Gaffney; two sisters, Virginia Wray and husband, Cecil, of Blacksburg and Minnie Mae Hensley of Simpsonville; five grandchildren, Kelli Sarratt and husband, Kip, Angie Beattie and husband, Brian, Josh Smith and wife, Christa, B. J. Smith and Keith Pennington and wife, Lindsay; seven great-great grandchildren, Maddie, Arlie, Braden, Colt, Ben, Sam and Cooper. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Nephi Bright, Marvin Bright, Nathaniel B. Bright, Morgan H. Bright and Hobert Bright and three sisters, Audrey Powell, Edith Clary and Verla Jean Bright. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 5, 2016 in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Bright and Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Piedmont Hospice, LLC, 209-A Riverside Court, Greer, SC 29650 or CHAPS, 301 College Drive, Gaffney, SC 29340.
