He graduated in 1939 from the Firth High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Leal and Helen Isabelle Revis were married while he was in the Navy on 19 May 1944 at First Baptist Church, in Adams,Nebraska. They owned and operated a family farm,in the Pella community until their retirement. They lived in Panama, Nebraska in retirement. They were active members of the Pella Reformed Church, rural Adam, Nebraska. Leal served on the Pella consistory for many years and they were involved in 4-H, Youth for Christ and other organizations that family members were involve in. They enjoyed traveling and attending many activities of their grandchildren. **********************************************************
