Description	:	When my mom asked me to write something for my grandma, of course I was honored to do it. I've always been close to her, and my heart is full of fond memories of my grandma. I love and adore my grandma and my memories of her go back for as long as I remember. It's not always easy to express on paper what someone means to you, but for those who knew my grandma, they know what a terrific lady she was. It's not always easy to express on paper what someone means to you, but for those who knew my grandma, they know what a terrific lady she was. She was one of the kindest people I ever knew, a gentle soul with a gracious heart. I will miss her very much. I've never known life without her. I am so grateful she was able to know her great-grandchildren. She loved having people around. She loved her family and friends and looked forward to the annual family reunion in July, our gathering for her birthday in April or Thanksgiving and Christmas. My grandma was such a social butterfly, she was always on the go with her friends at the senior center or meeting with friends to work on a quilt. She stayed very active for as long as she was able to. She and my grandpa raised huge gardens and fed half of Pateros! She was always on the go and very active. You are gone, grandma, but never forgotten. Life long resident of Okanogan County, Leda R. Brownlee died early Sunday morning, Oct. 6, 2002, following a brief illness. Leda was born in Okanogan on April 26, 1912 to Charles Martin Harrell and Minnie Coffey Harrell. After the death of her father Charles, her mother married George Brownlee in 1919. She moved with her family from Okanogan to Pateros when she was approximately seven years old. On Aug. 12, 1934, she married David Steven Brownlee in Pateros. They owned a dairy and wheat ranch above Pateros in an area known as Watson Draw (Brownlee Hill). Although they continued to work their wheat farm, they moved to Pateros in the early 1950s and in 1959 purchased the Mobile Gas station and grocery store. Leda worked as a nurse's aide in the Pateros nursing home and later was the school cook until she retired. Leda and Dave also worked during apple harvest every fall for Nickell Orchards. David preceded her in death. She married Alva Washburn. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Pateros. She is survived by three children, Ellen Whan of Pateros and her husband, Jim; David Brownlee of Pateros and his wife, Ramona; and Perry Brownlee of Tonasket; also, seven grandchildren, Kathy Harding of Omak and her husband Mike; Aaron Brownlee of Corpus Christi, TX, and his wife, Kim; Kevin Hixon of Murrieta, CA, and his wife Kelly; Dana Petersen of Omak; Lucas and Emily Brownlee of Tonasket; Matthew Brownlee of Okanogan. She also had ten great-grandchildren, Justina Harrison and her husband Jeremy, Torie Sloan, D.J. Petersen, Nicholas Brownlee, Ross Brownlee, Sam Harding, Tim Harding, Jake Hixon, Joey Hixon, and Jessica Hixon. Also a sister, Grace Nordang and her husband Art of Methow, and a brother, John Brownlee and his wife, Bev, of Leavenworth. She is also survived by two stepsons, Earl and Russell Washburn, and a step-daughter, Evelyn Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris McClellan of Omak and Hazel Newman of Eugene, OR; and her two husbands, David Brownlee and Alva Washburn, and a step son, Bill Washburn. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at the Pateros Church of Christ with Pastor Jim Reppart officiating. Committal Service and Interment will follow at the Pateros Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster
