Toie (pronounced, Toy) was born on June 28, 1941 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Kermit A. and Marguerite (Pokorny) Brashear. She was raised in Crawford, NE and graduated from Crawford High School in 1959. Toie then enrolled in the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she was an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega women's fraternity. She graduated from UNL in June of 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Lee Toie began her teaching career in Geneva, NE and then married Doug Kluck on August 8, 1964 in Crawford. She continued her teaching career in Marengo, Iowa until the couple moved to Watertown in 1967. She was appointed by Governor Dick Kneip to the South Dakota State Board of Education in 1974 but declined to serve in order to stay at home with her three children. She resumed her teaching career at St. Martin's Lutheran School in the early 1980's where she taught junior high classes including typing, home economics and her favorite subject, English. She taught at St. Martin's for 26 years and was passionate about serving students in a Christ centered school. Many former students appreciated the knowledge that they gained from Mrs. Kluck. Some continued to seek her assistance in proofing college papers and business letters years after attending her class. Toie was active in the Watertown community volunteering her time at Memorial Hospital, the Watertown Public Library and St. Martin's Church. She also volunteered at St. Martin's School upon her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading books and watching college football – especially her alma mater, the Huskers of Nebraska. Toie is survived by one son, Mike and his wife, JoDee Kluck, of Watertown, SD; two daughters, Tami and her husband, Ron Egerbrecht, of Johnson City, Tennessee and Nici and her husband, John Meyer, of Gretna, Nebraska. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren as well as her brother Kermit (Buzz) and his wife, Kathy Brashear of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents.
