Funeral services were at 3PM Wednesday November 26, 2008 in Hixson Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, Louisiana. The Rev. Lloyd Carroll officiated. Burial followed in Rosepine Cemetery. Mr. Yocum was born October 27, 1923 on a houseboat in Big Lake, Louisiana. That must have been where he first learned to love the water and fishing. Mr. Yocum was born October 27, 1923 on a houseboat in Big Lake, Louisiana. That must have been where he first learned to love the water and fishing. Mr. Yocum was a lifetime resident of Rosepine and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. While serving his Country, Mr. Yocum was presented with an Army Commendation Ribbon for his attempts to save the lives of two companions. According to the citation, "Yocum displayed courage when he tried to save two comrades from drowning. The three men were thrown into icy water of the Hang Pang River when a boat overturned. Yocum managed to regain control of the boat, then dived back into the water in an effort to save the other men. The freezing water prevented him from saving them". Yocum served in both the Pacific and European Theatres during his four years of service. He worked for a number of years as a construction superintendent for Black Industries
