Stocking and although most of Leigh's census records indicate his father was born in Illinois, in the 1880 census an 8 year old Leigh is living with his mother's parents and his father's birth place is listed as New York. In that census his mother is using her maiden name and lists herself as "divorced" In the 1885 Iowa census Alice and "Lee" are living in Iowa City and she is listed as "single" using the Stocking name. His mother was living in Wyanet, Bureau County, Illinois in 1870 and Frank Stocking, age 22, b. NY is also living there.
