He was a Navy Veteran. He was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Ozawkie, the son of Paul Herman and Gertie Metzger Schuster. He had lived in Morrill 27 years after construction of Perry Reservoir displaced his land. He also had lived in Kansas City, Kansas a year. Mr. Schuster was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic church in Hiawatha, Fairview Post No. 322 of the American Legion, and a Veterans of Foreign Wars post. He was married to Rita A. Hurla June 25, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Cecilia Morneau, Old Bridge, N.J., Theresa Baumgartner, Hiawatha, and Marcia Schuster, Morrill; four sons, Harland Schuster, Morrill, Gerald Schuster, Hiawatha, David Schuster, Sabetha, and Arnald Schuster, Wichita; three sisters, Veneta Cook and Nellie Frazier, both of Topeka, and Merle Bergin, Oskaloosa; and nine grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hiawatha. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Holton. Contributions to the Leland Schuster Memorial Fund to be designated later by relatives c/o the mortuary. Schroeder’s Brown County Mortuary, Hiawatha, was in charge of arrangements.
