Description	:	Leland Kelsey Stoddard was the last of four children born to Kelsey Barnes Stoddard and Lillie Luella (Ervin) Stoddard. He was born 16 December 1893 on a farm northeast of Hurley, South Dakota. He moved with his family to Parker, South Dakota, in 1904. He was active in sports, playing on the first basketball team for Parker High School, and pitching for the high school baseball team which won two State Championships. Read More	Leland Kelsey Stoddard was the last of four children born to Kelsey Barnes Stoddard and Lillie Luella (Ervin) Stoddard. He was born 16 December 1893 on a farm northeast of Hurley, South Dakota. He moved with his family to Parker, South Dakota, in 1904. He was active in sports, playing on the first basketball team for Parker High School, and pitching for the high school baseball team which won two State Championships. Following graduation, he played with the Hurley men's baseball team which also won two state Championships. He studied business in Mankato, Minnesota, and Denver, Colorado. He worked for the Parker post office ten years as a clerk and nine years as postmaster. He studied law at the University of South Dakota School of Law in Vermillion, then returned to Parker to assist his father in the real estate and insurance business. He remained in the insurance business after his father's death in 1944. He was also an active farmer for many years. He married Lillian Stevens in Marengo, Iowa, in 1919. He and Lillian had two daughters, one of whom did not survive infancy. In 1942 he married Wilma Gors at Dakota City, Nebraska. He and Wilma had one daughter and two sons. Leland was a Parker Councilman and Mayor. He served 6 years in the South Dakota State Legislature. He was also active in several community organizations, including the Masonic Lodge, Lion's Club, Turner County Fair Board, and SESD Baseball League. Lillian died 15 March 1970, Wilma died 23 June 1975, and Leland died 19 December 1990. They are all buried in the Rosehill Cemetery northwest of Parker.
