Read More	Big Timber Pioneer, September 21, 1950 Leland Liebel Killed in Collision On Boulder Road; Services Held Monday Leland Liebel, former Gibson mail carrier, was killed in an automobile accident Saturday evening on the McLeod highway two miles out of town near the city water reservoir. The accident occurred about 9 o'clock, at the crest of a hill, as Leland and two companions, George Erikson and Grant Duncan, were returning from an elk hunting trip. Their panel truck collided with a truck driven by Harold Clayton, the truck bed striking almost directly in line with Leland's face, fracturing his skull and causing immediate death. Stephen Dixson of Livingston, who had hitched a ride with them from McLeod sustained a broken shoulder, aggravating a previous break, and he is recovering in a Livingston hospital. The other two passengers in the Liebel machine were not seriously injured, although the car was badly wrecked, Clayton's truck remained in operating condition and he rushed to town for a doctor. In the meantime, a road construction truck came along and brought Dixson to town. Leland died a few minutes after Dr. Baskett arrived at the scene. Funeral services were conducted from the Lutheran church Monday afternoon, Rev. E. E. Tollefson officiating. Music was by Mrs. Ted C. Busha and Mrs. A. Ronald MCDonnell, accompanied by E. O. Overland. Pallbearers were Charles Officer, Alfred Rudd Jr., Grant Duncan, Kenneth Riveland, Ralph Faw, and George Erickson. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Rudd, Edwin Riveland, Donald Duncan, Ralph Wagner, Bill Doig, Jerry Officer. Burial was in Mountain View. Leland was born in Big Timber January 21, 1921, a son of the late W. G. Liebel and Mrs. Liebel. He attended the Rapstad rural school and Sweet Grass County High School. He was mail carrier for the Gibson route until last July when his contract expired. For the past several weeks he had been employed at the Jesse Duncan ranch. Survivors besides his mother are three brothers, Bill Liebel of Pasco, Wash., Fred Liebel of Big Timber and Joe Liebel of Lovell, Wyo.; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Faye) Dew and Mrs. May Guffy of Tacoma and Mrs. Joe (Winifred) Reidelbach of Big Timber.
