Williams Dead Mr. Lemuel B. Williams was born at Tennessee, Ill., August 14, 1851, one of three sons born to Mr. Perry and Lucy Williams. He grew to young manhood in and near McComb, Illinois. He married Miss Mary Holestine at Fandon, Ill. Aug. 14, 1873. Their early married life was spent in Illinois, but in the spring of 1876 they joined the rush to Kansas prairies. They settled on a farm just northwest of Cherokee, and after a period of over fifty-one years still retain possession of this farm. After living on this place for a long period of years, the family removed to Cherokee, Kansas, about thirty-seven years ago, and for a number of years conducted his farming operation on land adjoining city limits. He farmed quite extensively after removing to town, and later took up dairying. For many years he operated a neighborhood dairy and he was a daily visitor to nearly every home in town. His affliction of palsy began about twelve years ago, and gradually grew more and more severe. For the past several months he has been confined to his bed. A "kind providence" removed him from his suffering on last Sunday evening, surrounded by his wife and all the children. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Mary T. Williams; one son, Lemuel C. Williams of Henryetta, Okla.; 3 daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Ragan of Hoisington, Kansas; Mrs. Zara Grubbs, Dodge City, Kansas; Mrs. Gladys Eakes of Cherokee, Kansas. Mr. Williams joined the Methodist Episcopal Church a great many years ago. He was also a member of Cherokee Lodge No. 119 A.F.&A.M. His Brother Lodge members conducted their burial services at the cemetery. Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. W.H. Bunting and burial was made in the Cherokee cemetery. Contributed by Cheryl White
