Read More	71Y 10M ******************** Cherokee Sentinel, Nov. 14, 1902, page 6: Died On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Lucy Byrnes of this city died at her home where she has lived alone for many years. She was 71 years and 10 months old. For a few years she has been very nervous, and at times her mind wandered and seemed to give way, but she never lost sight of her religious faith, and her last days were a constant wish to die and go home to heaven. At the last her sufferings were such that she persuaded herself that God would pardon her for taking poison to help her depart. On Wednesday morning she got hold of a box of rat poison, took a dose, and laid down to die, asking her Heavenly Father to forgive her as she could endure her sufferings no longer. She was born in Marion county, Kentucky, and was at the age of fifteen married to a Mr. Williams and moved to Illinois. There her husband died, and after two years she married a Mr. Gibson. She came to Kansas twenty-six years ago, and about fifteen years ago was married to Francis Byrnes, he dying about four years ago. When quite young she joined the Christian church, afterwards joining the Methodist church, and as long as she was able she was a constant attendant at church services. Grandma Byrnes, as everybody knew her, was a good woman and has tried to do right. She leaves three sons, L.B. Williams of this city, Frank Williams of Quincy, Ill., and Samuel Gibson whose residence is not known. Funeral services will be held at the M.E. Church today, and the remains will be laid to rest in the Cherokee cemetery.
