Schnathorst, 95, a resident of the Embassy Manor for 13 years and former longtime resident of Laurel, were held this morning, June 23, at the First Assembly of God in Newton. The Rev. Harold Schutte, associate pastor of the First Assembly of God, conducted services. Burial was in St. John's Evangelical Cemetery in rural Newton. She died Friday at Embassy Manor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy Henry, March 1, 1942, two brothers, and a son, Henry Jan 10, 1963. Mrs. Schnathorst, a member of the First Assembly of God, had worked at Mason's Cafe for 13 years and had done private nursing in Newton and Marshalltown. The daughter of Emlin and Fannie Franklin Kendig, she was born Aug 18, 1890, north of Mingo and attended Newton area schools. She was married to Roy Henry Schnathorst Sep 25, 1908 at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Henry and Dorothea Schnathorst. ****** Newton, Iowa Newspaper 1908 Schnathorst-Kendig Wedding At the beautiful and well kept farm home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schnathorst, Malaka Township, Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock, took place the marriage of Roy H. Schnathorst and Miss Lena E. Kendig. Rev. R. F. Lavender performed the ceremony in the presence of about fifty relatives and invited guests, who at the conclusion of the ceremony tendered the happy young couple congratulations. The bridal party were attended by Mr. Fred Schnathorst and Miss Lydia Rixmarm. Miss Lydia Schnathorst, sister of the groom, played the wedding march. The bride was attired in white poplin trimmed with ribbon and lace and carried brides roses. The bridal party stood under an arch of lace festooned with carnations and smilax. Many very valuable presents were tokens of the high esteem in which the parties are held. An elegant three course supper with dainty dishes fit for a king was served by Florence and Fred Myer. All enjoyed the participation of the choice viands and all went merry as a marriage bell. Those from abroad were Mr. J. B. Kendig, of Marshalltown, grandfather of the bride; Mrs. Franklyn, grandmother of the bride, of Mingo; Lewis Dinsmore of Mingo; Amos Kendig and daughter, Mrs. Whitmore, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Kendig, of Collins. The young people will go to housekeeping on one of his father's farms east of the home place with good wishes of all for a happy married life and prosperity.
