She lived in the St. Stephen's community until 1951 when she moved to Van Buren, Arkansas to live for 10 years. She moved into the Nursing Home in Nelson around 1962. The Lawrence Locomotive, Thursday, December 19, 1985 The funeral for Lena Hoelting was Friday, Dec. 20, at 2p.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Lawrence. The Mass of Resurrection was celebrated by father Charles Gergen. She was born Dec. 29,1888, to John and Elizabeth Fraune Hoelting at Lawrence, and died in the Good Samaritan Home, Nelson Dec. 16. She attended St. Stephen's School and at the age of seven she contacted polio and after that she walked with the aid of crutches. In her later years, she needed a wheel chair. This did not keep her from leading a full active life. In 1915 she and her parents moved into St. Stephen's where she did sewing for the community; She was a member of church choir, school board and the Altar Society. Miss Hoelting would drive her Model T car to do her business of fitting clothes and do her shopping and visiting. After her mother died, she moved to Van Buren, Ark., and lived in a hospital, also making vestments and clothes for the nuns and the hospital, she also did painting, which included the re-painting of the statues in the church. In 1971, she moved to the Good Samaritan Home, Nelson, and continued sewing and painting. Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers and sisters, Henry, C. J.. Steve, George, William, Annie Benzinger, Theresa Pohlmeier, Josephine Brockman and Emma Ostdiek. She is survived by several nephews and nieces. Burial was in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
