Description	:	MRS. LENA PURCELL WOODBINE -- Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Lena Purcell, 88, who died on Thanksgiving day at her home in Woodbine following a long illness. The services were in charge of the Rev. T. I. Sandlin of the Presbyterian church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Elston of the Christian church. Burial was in the family lot in the Woodbine cemetery. LENA PURCELL WOODBINE -- Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Lena Purcell, 88, who died on Thanksgiving day at her home in Woodbine following a long illness. The services were in charge of the Rev. T. I. Sandlin of the Presbyterian church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Elston of the Christian church. Burial was in the family lot in the Woodbine cemetery. Lena Mary, daughter of Henry and Anna Bollier, was born at Herisau, Switzerland. At the age of 7 years, with her parents, and two sisters, she left Switzerland for the United States with a Mormon emigration group whose destination was Salt Lake City, Utah. They embarked in a sailing vessel being on the ocean seven weeks. Landing in New York city, they traveled by train to St. Louis, Missouri, and from there the family came by steamboat up the river to Florence, Nebraska. Here they became dissatisfied and decided to remain while the rest of the band continued on to Utah by ox team. The family moved into Omaha, which was then a very small town. Here sickness overtook them and their youngest daughter, Caroline, died. The next three years of her life was spent in Omaha and Council Bluffs, where she attended school. At the age of 10 years she came with her parents to Harrison county, where they settled on a farm in the Willow valley west of Woodbine. She was united in marriage September 22, 1870, to Lon Purcell of Woodbine, who died nine years ago. Following their marriage they established a home in the same community. Seventy years of her life were spent in Harrison county, seven in Mills county and two in Sarpy county, Nebraska. She is survived by seven sons, Dan of Sac City, Howard of Florence, Nebraska, Dean of Pacific Junction, Ernest, Joe, Herbert and Jesse, all of Woodbine; three daughters. Mrs. Maggie Moore of Woodbine, Mrs. Ida Teague of Magnolia and Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Emerson; 22 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and nine great, great grandchildren.
