Patterson Lenah Jane Patterson, daughter of Wake and Mattie Jane Syferd, was born July 8, 1870 near Allerton, Iowa in Jackson township and died at her home in Chariton, Sept 20, 1949 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was united in marriage to C.H. Patterson on Nov. 30, 1890 to this union two sons and two daughters were born. Patterson Lenah Jane Patterson, daughter of Wake and Mattie Jane Syferd, was born July 8, 1870 near Allerton, Iowa in Jackson township and died at her home in Chariton, Sept 20, 1949 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was united in marriage to C.H. Patterson on Nov. 30, 1890 to this union two sons and two daughters were born. Early in her married life she confessed her faith in Christ and became a member of the Christian church at Sewal. She is survived by her husband, one daugher, Mrs. George Clark of Des Moines, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Neal Reed, Harvard. Miss Hattie Syferd of Des Moines, and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two sons Everet and Irvan, one daughter Mrs. Fred Ripper, one grandchild, one brother and four sisters. On June 23, 1949 she fell and suffered a fractured hip, and was in the hospital 29 days after being home a short time she fell again and fractured the hip over and was in the hospital 29 days. On Sept. 17 she was enjoying her home and gaining strength when she suddenly suffered a heart attack from which she never recovered. She was always busy about the duties of her home and family, giving a cheery smile to those around and lending a helping hand to those in need. She will be greatly missed by those who were near and dear to her. Funeral services were held at Richardson Chapel Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22 by the Rev. Clifford Carter of Chariton, following short services at 1:00 p.m. in the Miley funeral home in Chariton. Music was furnished by B.W. Baxter and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Mason, with Dorothy Snugg, pianist. Flower bearers were Ruby Couchman, Coy Couchman, Velma Cobb, Beulah Bryant, Leah Mitchell and Carol Halfhill. Pallbearers were Cecil Bryant, Ervin Cobb, Ralph Mitchell, Leo Halfhill, Irvin Couchman and Raymond Couchman. Burial was made in Richardson Chapel cemetery.
