Description	:	Charleston News and Courier January 6 1954 Lennie D Avant Georgetown Barber Dies at Age 54 Georgetown Jan 5 Special Lennie Dargan Avant, 53, retired barber of Georgetown County Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health for several years. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Wednesday at Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. He was the son of the late James Gordon and Margaret Adriel Carter Avant. He attended the old Good Hope School and worked for Atlantic Coast Lumber Corp several years before attending a barbers school. He operated Avant Barber Shop for a number of years before retiring several years ago. Mr Avant was an ardent sportsman and was a member of several hunting clubs. He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics and had been a member of the old Business Men's Club. He was a member of Duncan Church and the Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his wife the former Miss Esther Smith two daughters Judy Smith and Linda Smith of Georgetown a brother C Bethel Avant of Andrews; three sisters Mrs HT Howard who lives near Hemingway and Mrs EV Bauer of Andrews and several nieces and nephews.
