Description	:	Leo A. Lindahl, 82, of Grand Island went to his heavenly father on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1304 N. Custer Ave., Grand Island, with the Rev. Sheri Lodel officiating. Interment will be in the Hordville Cemetery at a later date. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Leo Allen was born March 25, 1932, near Polk to Carl Joseph and Dollie Ellen (Speer) Lindahl. He grew up and received his education in the Central City and Hordville areas; and after the death of his parents, he went to live with his sister, Mildred, and her husband, George Conkling, and graduated from Elk Creek High School in 1950. Leo then went to Peru State College and received his bachelor's degree in industrial arts and his master's degree in education. He taught at Sterling, Brainard and Tryon, Neb. On June 5, 1960, Leo was united in marriage to Deta Fay Stokes in Red Cloud. They began their married life in Tryon, where they taught. Leo then began working with World Book Encyclopedia and the family lived in Yankton, S.D., Fremont and Omaha, Sioux Falls, S.D., and in 1969 they moved to Grand Island. Leo continued working with World Book and then drove taxi and eventually purchased the taxi company, Grand Island City Cab. He retired in the early 2000s and then delivered for The Grand Island Independent. Leo was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, was certified as a Parish Ministry Associate in the ELCA, worked in Prison Ministry, Toastmasters and the Gideon Society. He enjoyed old cars, reading and studying his Bible. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Deta of Grand Island; two daughters, Lorie and Glen Thomas of Omaha and LeAnn Lindahl and special friend, Robin Berns, of Grand Island; two grandsons, Glen and Grant Thomas; one sister, Mildred Conkling, and one brother, Louis and Elizabeth Lindahl, all of Lincoln; and other relatives and many friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Luci Lindahl, in 2004; brother, Ivan Lindahl; and infant twin sister, Lucille.
