From 1932 to 1940, he attended grade schools in Chelan, Cashmere, Marcus, Okanogan, Entiat, Chewelah, and Spokane. Leo later attended high school at St. Mary's High School in Chewelah and Gonzaga High School in Spokane from which he graduated in 1944. Leo served in the U. S. Navy from December 1944 to July 1946. Leo later attended Washington State College in Pullman and Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, after which he passed the Washington State Bar Examination which authorized him to practice law in the State of Washington. Leo married Marion F. Jaeger on April 19, 1952 and together they gave life to eight children. However, on April 14, 1971, Marion died unexpectedly. On November 24, 1972, Leo and Mary Therese Kelly Dunham married, resulting in the merger of two families which then included the eight Driscoll children and four Dunham children, all of whom moved into a wonderful family home at 415 E. 12th Avenue, in Spokane. Death once again came to Leo's family on June 16, 1973 when Leo's 10-year-old son, Daniel, died in a Seattle hospital after his battle with leukemia. Leo served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Spokane County from 1953 to 1956, after which he engaged in the private practice of law for thirty-seven years with the Spokane law firm that became known as Winston & Cashatt, Lawyers. From 1993 to 1996, Leo served Gonzaga University as in-house counsel. During 1978-1979, Leo served a one-year term as President of the Spokane County Bar Association and later, Leo served as President of the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Washington. In 1999, Leo was named recipient of the coveted and prestigious Smithmore P. Myers Professionalism Award, conferred upon him by the Spokane County Bar Association. An avid reader and consumer of knowledge, Leo loved to engage in lively conversations with friends and family. Because of his depth of knowledge, it was hard to win an argument with Leo Driscoll. Leo also loved to work with his hands. He was a masterful woodworker and tried his hand at painting and drawing. A man with wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit, Leo never missed an opportunity to tell a joke or share a story. He had numerous devoted friends who were an important part of his life and with whom he enjoyed many nights of storytelling and raising a glass. To all who knew him, he was a kind and loving person who generously gave of his time and talents to help others. Leo's heroes and heroines, whom he tried to emulate in his life, included Mahatma Gandhi, Dorothy Day, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, Jr., Pope Francis, and Rob McCann (the head of Catholic Charities in Spokane). All of them, like Leo, truly heard the cry of the poor and acted to improve the lives of those less fortunate. Leo was preceded in death by his wives, Marion F. Driscoll and Mary Therese Driscoll; his son, Danny; his parents, Pat and Joan Driscoll; and by his only siblings, Joyce P. Kimmel and Barbara A. Macomber. Leo is survived by his seven children: Catherine Stangland (David); Patrick Driscoll (Janice); Mary McConnell (Brian Iller); Karyn Teague (Gary); Stacie Friend (Bob); Colleen Mitchell (Brian); and Brigid Chvilicek (Jeff); and his four step-children: Kelly Tormey (Peter); Kimberly Dunham (Larry Grober), Casey Dunham (Lori Brennan), and Courtney Dunham. Also surviving Leo are his 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
