Description	:	Leo James Yeager was born into this world on August 2, 1932, in Laurel, Montana, to Marie (Fox) Yeager and Alex Yeager, and was peacefully taken to his heavenly home on September 2, 2020. Read More	Leo James Yeager was born into this world on August 2, 1932, in Laurel, Montana, to Marie (Fox) Yeager and Alex Yeager, and was peacefully taken to his heavenly home on September 2, 2020. Dad was the second generation son of German immigrants from the Volga River Valley in Russia. He grew up on the southside of Laurel in what was then called Germantown. In Dad’s words “he had a wonderful and idyllic childhood”. He thoroughly loved recounting tales of his youth and always did so with a gleam in his eye. He loved telling stories, even if the details were embellished as he got older and the memory grew a little dimmer! Dad’s sense of humor and quick wit were second to none. Because of the ethnic tensions between the northside and southside of the railroad tracks in Laurel, Dad learned how to become a skilled boxer, which he was known to use to his advantage from time to time. Dad loved and played several different sports but he excelled in basketball. He had a handful of basketball scholarships out of high school (even though he was only 16 when he graduated), but he chose to play basketball at Eastern Montana College (now MSU-B) for coach Shorty Alterowitz. Dad was also an outstanding basketball referee for many years. Dad fell in love with a pretty young lady from Minnesota named Eloise, got married at 18 and had a son 11 months later. That union lasted almost 62 years until Mom’s passing in June of 2013. Dad gave up his last year of college and college basketball to take a job with Farmer’s Union Central Exchange Refinery in Laurel (now known as CHS), because he wanted to provide for his new family. Dad loved the refinery and was grateful for the living it provided for him and his family, as well as his father before him and now his son and grandson. Dad retired from the Refinery after 41 years of faithful service and began to enjoy the retired life – mainly the fact he could stay up late and sleep in. Dad was always a fair man, steady, someone you could rely upon to be there when you needed him. Dad was in his 60’s when he gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and simply put he continued to become a softer, kinder and gentler man until the day he died. He knew he had been forgiven much and he was most thankful. As Dad got older and his health declined, he never complained, he was just grateful for the many ways the Lord had blessed him. Dad was a founding member of Christ Covenant Reformed Church in Billings (2007). Dad was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Marie Yeager; his wife Eloise; his brothers Larry Yeager and Tim Kautz; his daughter Jill Frank; and his daughter-in-law Karen Jackson. Dad is survived by his son Todd Yeager; his son Ross Yeager and wife Kristi and their sons Derek Yeager (Annette) and Dane Yeager (Angela); his son Ryan Yeager and wife Ginny and their daughters Anita Deacon (Luke) and Elizabeth Yeager and son Alex Yeager. Dad is also survived by his grandson Thomas Frank (Andrea) whom he was privileged to help raise and mentor. He is also survived by great grandsons Sawyer, Gabe, Tristan and Leo and great granddaughter Bailey. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 9th, 1 pm, at the Yellowstone Christian College Chapel (1515 S. Shiloh Road, Billings) followed by coffee & pastries and then interment at the Laurel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Dad’s memory may be sent to Christ Covenant Reformed Church – P.O. Box 568, Billings, MT 59103.
