Jerry is survived by his devoted wife Margy Halverson-Collins; 6 children, Dr. Mark (Marcella) Collins of San Diego, CA, Dr. Linda Shafer and her fiancé Steve Bonnewell of Scottsdale, AZ, Diane (Joe) Kinzer of Port Washington, WI, Tiffany (Victor) LeVesconte of London, England, Dr. Bradley (Mallory) Halverson of Tinley Park, IL and Matthew Halverson of Denver, CO; ten grandchildren, Isabella and Aidan Collins, Nathan, Marc, and Zane Shafer, Claire, Colin and Jack Kinzer, Kent Halverson, and much anticipated grandbaby LeVesconte; his sister Mary (Gary) Warner, his brother Mike (Carol) Collins, sister-in-law Mary Lou Collins; and many loving extended family members and loyal friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Rose Collins; his brothers, Jim, Larry and Bill Collins. Jerry’s love and concern for others throughout his life has created a mass of loving relationships, from his Rockwell City High School Class of 1958, to his many co-workers throughout his 40 years in the trucking industry. Jerry was born on October 13, 1939 in Fort Dodge. He served in the Army Reserve. His love of trucks started as a teen and continued throughout his life. He was an owner and operator for years before he joined Decker Trucker Line, Inc., ending his career as Senior VP of Operations. He was proud of the work of every employee, beloved by many, especially those known as "Jerry's Kids." Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge with Monsignor Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Francis Cemetery, Rockwell City. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 15 with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home.
