Description	:	Leo Joseph Erdkamp Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo B. Erdkamp of Exeter, was born one of twins, February 2, 1926, at Exeter, Neb. He attended District 25 and St. Stephen's parochial schools in the grades. He was a member of the class of 1944 in the Exeter high school, but enlisted in the U. S. Navy January 31, 1944, and was called into service February 9, 1944, interrupting his school year. He took his boot training at Farragut, Idaho, after which he was home on a short leave before being sent to Pearl Harbor as... Read More	Leo Joseph Erdkamp Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo B. Erdkamp of Exeter, was born one of twins, February 2, 1926, at Exeter, Neb. He attended District 25 and St. Stephen's parochial schools in the grades. He was a member of the class of 1944 in the Exeter high school, but enlisted in the U. S. Navy January 31, 1944, and was called into service February 9, 1944, interrupting his school year. He took his boot training at Farragut, Idaho, after which he was home on a short leave before being sent to Pearl Harbor as mailman, third class, for a short time. He was then stationed at postmaster on the U.S.S.Artemis A. K. A. 21 with twenty-two months duty overseas. While at sea, he crossed the equator and was initiated into Domain of Neptunus Rex. He received his honorable discharge from service at the St. Louis, Mo. separation center May 10, 1946. He then returned to his home in Exeter and worked with his father and brother-in-law during the summer and fall of 1946. During this time, through the Navy point system, he took examinations and received his diploma of graduation from the Exeter high school. January 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elvaeda Joan Hilna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hlina of near Burress. They made their home in Denver, Col., where he was employed as an apprentice painter. January 18, 1948, he was accidently shot while hunting near Crook, Col., and died on arrival at the Sterling, Col. hospital. His twin Bernard, preceded him in death September 30, 1926. He is survived by his wife, Elveda Joan; his parents, three brothers, Richard, Raymond and Thomas at home; three sisters, Mrs. Delores McGaughey of Denver; Rose Marie and Wilma of Exeter; a brother-in-law, W. H. McGaughey and a nephew, Billy McGaughey of Denver, also a host of relatives and friends. Services were held January 22 at St. Stephen's Church in Exeter at 10 a.m. Rev. A. A. Antachowski officiating. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery, with military honors being rendered by an honor guard of World War II Veterans.
