Description	:	Richard Edward Erdkamp was born to Leo B. and Anna J. Votipka Erdkamp on November 25, 1930, on the family farm in Fillmore County, and passed away on December 8, 1987, at the York General Hospital at the age of 57 years and 12 days. He was one of eight children in the family. Dick attended parochial school in Exeter through the eighth grade, and then attended Exeter High. Read More	Richard Edward Erdkamp was born to Leo B. and Anna J. Votipka Erdkamp on November 25, 1930, on the family farm in Fillmore County, and passed away on December 8, 1987, at the York General Hospital at the age of 57 years and 12 days. He was one of eight children in the family. Dick attended parochial school in Exeter through the eighth grade, and then attended Exeter High. He was active in three sports, but excelled in football, and took pride in his contributions to an undefeated season in his senior year. That same year he was chosen for the All-State second team as an end. He graduated in May of 1949. At the age of 16, he began working with his father, learning the trade that he loved and of which he soon became a master. In 1960 he established Erdkamp Construction Company and built over 25 homes in Exeter and surrounding communities. In October of 1978, Dick and Blondie purchased Boren Lumber Company and re-named it Exeter Lumber Company. Over the years he remodeled and improved the premises to what they are today. Dick was married to Elenor (Blondie) M. Christensen of Stuart, Ia., on January 20, 1951, and to them eight children were born. Dick was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church and served several terms on the church board. He served 16 years on the village board and was Mayor of Exeter for four years. He was also a member of the Mid-America Lumbermans Association. Dick contributed greatly to the betterment of his community, he worked hard to make Exeter a better place i which to live. He loved to fish, work on his garden and just have a good time. His family was a very important part of his life. He taught his children to stand up for what they believe in and allowed each one to develop his or her own sense of independence. He passed on to each of them a part of himself, his wonderful sense of humor and even a bit of his stubborn nature. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved nothing more than to spend time with each new Erdkamp. "Where's Dedecek" was always the first thing little Mitch asked when he came to Grandma's. The year 1987, brought two new granddaughters to Dick, the newest of which was born two days after his 57th birthday. Dick said Casey Marie was his birthday present for Grandpa. Dick was a kind and gentle man, but his greatest quality was his honesty. If he gave you his word on anything, he never went back on it. He was a man of his word. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Leo; his mother, Anna, and twin brothers, Leo and Bernard. He is survived by his wife, Blondie; sons, Richard L. and wife, Marcia of YOrk, David L and wife, Pat and Dale P. and wife, Julie, all of Exeter and Paul D. of Lincoln; daughters, Mrs. Tom (Krista) Egging of Lincoln, Mrs. John (Peg) Becker of Exeter, Mrs. Tom (Mary) Bristol of Lincoln, and Mrs. Wade (Joni) Harre of Exeter; brothers, Raymond of Exeter and To of Superior; sisters, Mrs. Bill (Delores) McGaughy of Denver, Co., Mrs. Clete (Rosie) Kamler of Loup City, and Mrs. Ron (Wilma) Spoerl of Boulder, Co.; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from ST. Stephen'[s Catholic Church in Exeter on Friday, December 11, with Monsignor H. H. Ingehorst officiating. Henrietta Harre accompanied Cherlyn Rassette who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Ave Maria." Tom Klemm accompanied himself and sang "Why Me, Lord?" Pallbearers were classmates, Bob Leif, Keith Neilson, Gaylord Becker, Dick Rayer, Jerome Harre and Hans Nelson. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 17th, 1987 page 18. Son of Leo B. and Anna J. (Votipka) Erdkamp. Husband of Elenor ("Blondie") M. (Christensen) Erdkamp. They were married on January 20, 1951.
