Description	:	: Big Timber Pioneer, August 2, 2002 Leo L. Ray, 85, formerly of Big Timber, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, following an extended illness. He had made his home in Billings for the last 18 months and was a resident of Sage Towers at the time of his death. He was born in Yellowstone County, the son of Marie (Ray) Bentz. He had made his home in Billings for the last 18 months and was a resident of Sage Towers at the time of his death. He was born in Yellowstone County, the son of Marie (Ray) Bentz. After graduating from Billings High Schol, he attended Billings Polytechnic, where he earned a degree in welding and worked during the war years on aircraft carriers in Portland, Oregon. After selling his shop, he went into road construction and later joined the Montana Highway Department, retiring as a district supervisor for the division office in Big Timber. Family members recall his great love of the outdoors, especially when he became a part of it at the business end of a fly rod on the Boulder River. In retirement he was able to indulge in his favorite game, golf, and was most proud of having placed in the state senior tournament in Billings in 1985, representing the Overland Golf Club in Big Timber. As an avid hunter of game, big and small, he was an active lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and won numerous marksmanship awards in the organization. Leo also enjoyed bowling as a "relaxing" way to spend an hour or two. His wife Josephine Farthing died in 1965. Later in life, he married Betty Jarett. His last wife, Mary ?? died two years ago. Survivors include a daughter Bonnie ??? and her husband ??? of .........a granddaughter, Stacey Moore and Her husband Steve of Rocky Hill, Conn and a great-grandson Ivan Moore of Rocky Hill. A family gathering is planned within the coming year along the Boulder River. Memorial may be sent to the Big Sky Hospice. Cremation has taken place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings.
