Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, in Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Union, IA. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, in Union. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com Leo was born May 19, 1923 on the family farm near Liscomb, IA, to Fred and Fay (Rummerfield) Yantis, the fifth of thirteen children. He worked on the family farm and then various other jobs in the area until he was inducted into the United States Army during World War II. On July 4, 1947, Leo married Arlene (Jaspers) Yantis. He was known to say “I lost my independence on Independence Day!” Arlene truly was the love of his life. Leo continued farming until he moved the family to Colorado in 1958. There he worked at Gates Tire Company, Denver Public Schools, and ranched in Colorado and Wyoming. After retiring from South Sheridan Baptist Church in Colorado, he and Arlene returned to Union, IA, in 1989., where he continued working … helping farmers in the area, driving a school bus, and helping family, friends and neighbors with various projects … always willing to lend a helping hand. Leo was preceded in death by Arlene, his wife of 62 years, one great grandson, Cody Yantis and twin granddaughters, Chloe, and Lilly Veal. He is survived by four children: daughters, Doris Fay (Wayne) Brown of Encampment,WY and Marlene Kay (Ted) Sutherland of Golden, CO, sons, Leon Ray (Denise) of Marshalltown, IA and Robert Wayne (Chris) Yantis of Sturgis, SD; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and one great- great granddaughter. Leo enjoyed singing and sharing his testimony of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His life was a living testimony of the love he had for his Savior. He spent hours, daily, in Bible reading, Scripture memorization and prayer. Leo is loved and will be missed by his family and friends who look forward to the day when we will meet him again in the glories of Heaven.
