Description	:	Leola Evelyn Butterfield, age 90 of Plainview, passed away Saturday, Feb 25, 2006, at the Neligh Nursing Center. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday Feb. 27, 2006, at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at the First Congregational Church in Plainview. Rev. Art Anderson officiated the services. music was provided by singers, Sunday Bockelmann and Misty Wortman accompanied by Judy Beaudette, organist. Ashburn Funeral Hone of Plainview was in charge of arrangements. Leola was born Sept. 4, 1915, at Niobrara, to Clarence and Cecella (Acklie) Brokaw. She was the oldest of six children. Leola attended rural schools throughout northeast Nebraska prior to her marriage to Elmer (Irvin) Butterfield on May 21, 1936. To this union four children were born. The family resided in northeast Nebraska where they farmed and raised livestock until Irvin's death in February 1976. Leola continued to enjoy country living, raising hogs, tending cows, gardening and growing flowers, even after her husband's death. She also was a talented seamstress as she made much of her children's clothing as they grew up. Leola's favorite things to do were to write and receive letters from family and friends. After a fall and subsequent hospital stays, Leola moved into Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Plainview in February 2002. She lived there until April 2005, when she moved to Neligh Nursing Center following an accident. She resided there until her death. Leola is survived by her sons, Carrol and wife Mary of Fremont, Dale and wife Anne of Norfolk; daughter Alice Bockelmann and husband Dwaine of Pierce; four granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethie Synovec of Plainview, and Grace Sommerfeld of Norfolk; sisters-in-law, Clara Ruhl of Grand Island, Shirley Brokaw of Foster, Doris Hoxsic and Ruby Shaw of O'Neill. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Audrey; husband; parents; one sister and two brothers.
