It had been given out a short time before that she was better and friends had hoped for final recovery Various complications together with a weak heart were the cause of death Funeral services were held from the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Metcalf assisted by Rev. Porter conducted the ceremony. It was attended by one of the largest audiences ever gathered at a funeral in Nelson. The Eastern Star lodge and the P.E.O. sisterhood of which organizations deceased was a member, attended in a body. The former held service under its ritual at the grave. Leola Monger was born in Goodhope (sic), Illinois, Se tember (sic) 27, 1869; died March 4, 1904. Came to Nebraska in 1889, and was married to H.E. Goodrich February 6, 1895. To this union three children were born. Besides her husband and children, Blanche, Donald and Helen, she leaves her father, mother, four sisters and one brother, who live in Goodhope (sic), to mourn her death. Deceased was a christian, having united with the church in 1884. She always lived a consistent life and was ever ready to minister to the needs of her fellowbeings (sic). She was a teacher in the Nelson schools for five years previous to her marriage and in that capacity she was most painstaking and helpful and later became a devoted wife and mother. The following words seem most appropriate to the life and death of Mrs. Goodrich: "Why are we spared when so many have fallen -- the bright, the beautiful, the gifted, the glorious? Ho many like opening buds, were blasted by the frost - half developed flowers! Others, in riper age, withered, hour by hour, and we have seen them pass away. Even in our own households the angel of death has entered, and we have seen the dark shadow thrown over our hearthstones. Why is it that we live? Because our times are in the hand of God. We live because it is His good pleasure that we should still have a work to do and responsibilities to meet.*** "O, let other wrap themselves, if they may, in the chilly garb of doubt; let them, if they will, lose themselves in the mists of skepticism; but give me the faith that recognizes a duty; that shows me a Father; that points me to and elder Brother who cries out, 'I am the resurrection and the life, and then shall I have the assurance that 'for me to live in Christ and to die in gain.'" - Bishop Simpson.
