Fowler, 84, a retired farmer and resident of the Arcadia community since 1947, died Saturday, December 24, at a nursing home in Ord. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 28, in the Arcadia Congregational Church. Burial was in Sunnyslope cemetery near Loup City. Leon Earnest Fowler, son of James and Sarah Brayton Fowler, was born September 3, 1882, in New York State. He came to Nebraska at an early age with his parents and grew up on the Grand Island area. On September 27, 1904, he married Myrtle Bennetsen of Dannebrog and to this union five children were born. The family moved to Texas in 1917. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler separated and he came to Arcadia and worked for his brother-in-law, Frank Tiffany, south of town. On February 20, 1929, he married Maria Nelson and they engaged in farming near Stapleton until 1947 when they retired from the farm and moved into Arcadia where she passed away April 10, 1957. Mr. Fowler was a member of the Arcadia Congregational Church. Survivors include three sons, Lloyd of Crosbyton, Texas; Ray of Stapleton, Nebraska, and Gerton of San Lorenzo, Calif.; two daughters, Fern Julian and Gladus Earnest, both of Lubbock, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. ********* Married first, Sep 4 1904 Dannebrog, Howard, NE, Myrtle Bennetson; five children; div.
