Description	:	Leon Wengert, 60, well known Central Iowa farmer, died unexpectedly early Tuesday of a heart attack at his home southeast of Colo. He had undergone surgery and had suffered another heart attack previously and had been in poor health for the last two years. Funeral services were held from St John's Lutheran Church north of State Center today with the Rev Walter Strandes in charge. Interment was in State John's Cemetery. Read More	Leon Wengert, 60, well known Central Iowa farmer, died unexpectedly early Tuesday of a heart attack at his home southeast of Colo. He had undergone surgery and had suffered another heart attack previously and had been in poor health for the last two years. Funeral services were held from St John's Lutheran Church north of State Center today with the Rev Walter Strandes in charge. Interment was in State John's Cemetery. Mr Wengert was born on the last hour of the day, the last day of the week, the last week in the month of the last year in the century, December 31, 1899, a son of George and Dorothea German Wengert, and was reared in Story County. He received his education in the rural schools of Minerva township and at St John's Parochial School. He was married to Eleanor Thake on Mary 28, 1922 at State Center and they farmed in Marshall and Story Counties, making their home for the last 20 years southeast of Colo. In recent years, Mr Wengert had operated one of the most modern dairy farms in the state of Iowa. Mr Wengert was a member of St John's Lutheran Church and was active in civic affairs at Colo. He served six years on state and county Farm Bureau Boards and for several years on the editorial board of the Lutheran Witness magazine. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs Hugo Armbrecht and one son, Harold, both of Colo. Other survivors include six sisters and brothers, Eugene of Milwaukee, Wisc., Mrs John Boeckenhauer of Des Plaines, IL, Mrs Gus Lahr of Artesia, Calif, and Mrs Jim Richeson, Orville and Roland, all of State Center, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Gerald, his parents, two sisters and one brother. July 28, 1960 State Center Enterprise.
