Description	:	WOOSTER -- Leon P. Schopfer, 84, of Wooster, and formerly of Glenmont, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2012, following a short illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Joanna Lance officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Glenmont. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Glenmont, and was the son of Walter and Eleanore (Vogel) Schopfer. On Oct. 9, 1952, he married Mary Louise Strouse, and she survives. He managed Vogels General Merchandise in Glenmont, was a salesman for Friendly Wholesale and retired in 1992 from Owens Illinois in Berlin. Leon was a member of the UCC Church of Glenmont, where he served as deacon and elder, and attended Trinity UCC of Wooster, when he was able. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Millersburg American Legion. Leon was a volunteer fireman for the Glenmont Fire Department, where he was a past fire chief. He served on the Glenmont council, was on the Board of Public Affairs and was named "Outstanding Citizen" at Glenmont's Homecoming. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and their spouses, Diane (Bill) Hardman of Smithville and Doreen (Ron) Bryant of Wooster; one granddaughter, Robin Bryant of Wooster; a sister, Anne Fesler of Grove City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
