Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hoven, with Fr. Lance Oser, celebrant. Lector will be Linda Feldmeier. Leona Catherine Timp, daughter of Catherine (Dreis) and Edmund Timp, was born at Gettysburg on April 8, 1941. She was raised on a farm 10 miles North of Gettysburg and attended Lucas #26 Rural School through eighth grade, with the exception of second and seventh grades when she attended St. Anthony's Parochial School and received her Simple and Solemn Communion. She also attended Hoven High School. She married Jim Wager on Feb. 5, 1959, at St. Anthony's Church in Hoven. They settled in Gettysburg where Leona was employed at various places. In 1968, they moved to Minneapolis where Jim completed his education and Leona was employed at North Memorial Hospital. In 1969, they relocated to Hoven where Leona lived the remainder of her days. From 1978-2002 she owned and operated the Hoven Review and for several years in the late '90s she owned and operated the Selby Record. Following retirement from the newspaper, she worked as a CNA at Oahe Manor of Gettysburg. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Altar Society. She also belonged to the South Dakota Press Association, the Hoven Service Club that she served as secretary for many years, the Gettysburg VFW Ladies' Auxiliary, and the Selby Commercial Club. Her hobbies included sewing and crocheting and she also liked working in her yard and spent many hours keeping it up. Leona is survived by 2 daughters - Deb Schroeder of Redfield and Cindy (Nick) Hegge of Rochester, Minn.; two brothers, Ray (Bonnie) Timp of Mankato, Minn. and Melvin "Shorty" Timp of Garretson; two sisters - Betty (Gene) Sieck of Selby and Judy (Gary) Oaks of Gettysburg; four grandchildren - Erin and Patrick Helland and Gus and Zoe Hegge; and a special friend Ralland Titze of Gettysburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother (James "Jay"), and a son-in-law (Rod Schroeder). Honorary bearers will be Leona's Birthday Club. Casketbearers will be Doug Sieck of Selby, Don Sieck of Onida, Tom Wager and Ed Wager of Gettysburg, and David Griese and Rick Schaefer of Hoven.
